Who Are They?

Anthony Jackson and Justin Green are the duo behind one of Ireland’s most popular artisan gins, Bertha’s Revenge.

What are they best known for?

Producing a premium gin from their boutique distillery at Justin’s family home, Ballyvolane House in North Cork.

How Do They Do It?

The alcohol base for the gin is distilled from the whey by-products from Cork’s dairy farms, making this a rare beast indeed, an Irish Milk Gin.

Have They Been Successful?

“We started in 2015 and just recently we added a gold medal from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition to our awards, we’re really thrilled about it,” says Justin.

What Is Their Philosophy?

Combining locally sourced ingredients with timeless techniques and the most modern quality control methods to produce a premium spirit.

What Does The Future Hold?

”We are already doing very well in duty free shops and speciality spirits retailers, we just want to keep coming up with ideas and expanding into new markets”.

Can I Meet The Maker?

You can visit Ballyvolane House in North Cork, which offers dining and accommodation in the house or on their luxury “glamping” camp-site. Justin has plans for distillery tours and for selling Bertha’s “from the farm gate”.

Are They On Social Media?

Yes – on Twitter @berthasrevenge

So Who Was Bertha?

Bertha was a legendary Kerry dairy cow – of a hardy old Irish breed known as a She passed away in 1993 but is still in the Guinness Book of Records as both the world’s oldest known dairy cow (dying at 49 years of age) and the most fertile, producing 39 calves.

And Finally, What’s Their Pro-Tip When It Comes to Food, Drink or Entertaining?

Justin says, for the perfect Gn’T, you will need “lots and lots of ice, a premium gin, a classic, quality Indian tonic. Do a 3 to 1 mix and add a twist of orange or grapefruit peel. Just twist or bend the peel as you put it into the mix, to give it that zesty, citrus flavour and aroma”.

And If You Want to Make a Bertha’s Gin Cocktail - just click on their list of recipes for classics such as a gin martini, Negroni or (and this comes especially recommended) Bertha’s Gin Rhubarb Martini.
